Man oh man

Last year Hilary Mantel won the Man Booker for her novel Wolf Hall. The long list for 2010 has been released and I've gone to the trouble of copying and pasting it below. It'll get reduced to a shortlist on September 7 and they give out the prize money and sash on October 12. The Slap by Australian author  Christos Tsiolkas is the biggest seller on the list at the moment.

Room Emma Donoghue
Parrot and Olivier in America by Peter Carey
The Betrayal by Helen Dunmore
In a Strange Room by Damon Galgut
The Long Song by Andrea Levy
C by Tom McCarthy (out in Australia in September)
February by Lisa Moore
Skippy Dies by Paul Murray
Trespass by Rose Tremain
The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas
The Stars in the Bright Sky by Alan Warner

The Finkler Question by Howard Jacobson (out in Australia in October)
The Thousand Autumns of Jacob de Zoet by David Mitchell

The winner gets £50,000! In 1990 A.S.Byatt, won it for  Possession and spent the cash on "her longed-for swimming pool in Provence." Tidy.
