On Friday night I went to the launch of Comrades the new novel by Dominic Knight. Dom writes for The Chaser and also contributes to titles like The Sydney Morning Herald and Sunday Life. The launch was at Manning Bar at Sydney University where the novel is set. It follows the cut throat lead up to the student elections and though he described it at the party as "redefining the word niche" I think it's pretty universal. It's also incredibly warm, funny and Nick Hornbyesque. I imagine that anyone who was at uni in the late 90's will see themselves in this book. And probably cringe. The part where he goes to his room to listen to Portishead and think about how complicated his life is? I thought my angst was so original...
