Mining for gold

Today Allen&Unwin announced that Sterling's Gold by Roger Sterling will be released in  December. It's written by series creator (and creative genius), Matthew Weiner (who was also responsible for The Sopranos).

Grab a martini and sample some of his sharply observed gems...

On advertising
When a man gets to a point in his life when his name's on the building, he can get an unnatural sense of entitlement.

On being an ad-man
It's about listening to people and never saying what's really on your mind.

Things to say to creatives
I never get used to the fact that most of the time it looks like you're doing nothing.

On the art of seduction
Remember, when God closes a door, he opens a dress.

Management insights
It looks like you're all going to engage in a little mid-level camaraderie, so I'll be on my way.

On drinking
You don't know how to drink. Your whole generation, you drink for the wrong reasons. My generation, we drink because it's good, because it feels better than unbuttoning your collar, because we deserve it. We drink because it's what men do.

On others
You want to be on some people's minds. Some people's you don't.

On Life
Once you say that, you're not discreet anymore.

In other, not particularly book related news, there was another Mad Men cross over  in the latest ep of 30 Rock. This time John Slattery (Roger) played a tea-party-eque political candidate and it was giantly awesome as the pic below indicates.
